Montúfar’s upbringing on his family’s farm in South America fostered a love of flowers that has blossomed into a new Venice-based business. Just in time for Mother’s Day, Montúfar has teamed up with friend John Tabis to launch The Bouqs Company (thebouqs. com), an e-commerce website bursting with blooms. The company has already attracted Jessica Alba, who used its florals at a party to launch her book, The Honest Life , and interior designer Estee Stanley recently outfitted her home with the flowers for an event. “The buying options were outdated for our generation of digital shoppers,” says Tabis, explaining that The Bouqs commissions farmers to cut flowers to order from the mineral-rich verdant fields below an active South American volcano. Clients can opt to send a one-time bouquet or start a subscription service. Now the duo has enlisted Four Seasons’ petal pro Eric Buterbaugh as chief designer to create their floral arrangements and to assist with other brand and aesthetic decision-making.
