Hitting the High Notes Dame Kiri Te Kanawa has been captivating opera audiences for almost 50 years. She’s performed in nearly every house of note around the world and was even featured early this year on an episode of Downton Abbey. On Aug. 18, the New Zealand-born songstress will return to Ravinia for a performance that will feature the debut of a work the festival commissioned in her honor— something Te Kanawa described as a “true privilege.” “Ravinia is an amazing festival,” she says. “The programming is always superb, and the setting is quite unique.
