When an artisan gets a supply, it’s targeted for something gorgeous. In industrial designer Evan Ward ’s case, the reclaimed wood slabs from a Glenview home are destined to be his limited-edition Rotere 360° task lamps. Th e name comes from the Danish word for rotate, and pays homage to Ward’s heritage—and the source of his design inspiration. “I wanted to design a fully articulating desk lamp that wasn’t your basic Ikea model,” says Ward, founder of collaborative M26 Studio (m26studio.com). He started with a prototype and launched a Kickstarter campaign to get funding for the production costs. Th e project was 100 percent funded within a month, and Kickstarter supporters will be gifted with their own lamps by November. Th e remainder of the lights will be sold through local retailers and online, and—depending on what he can source— Ward also has plans to replicate the design with diff erent woods.
