So when Abbas and Sheekha, who met while studying at Loyola University but parted ways after graduating (he to Dallas to work for PepsiCo; she to Boston for optometry school), finally ended up in the same ZIP code, Abbas knew he had to make the arrangement permanent. Under the guise of a black-tie event for Abbas’ job, the pair traveled from their home in Dallas to the beautiful Waldorf Astoria, where Abbas had impressively gathered more than 100 of the couple’s family and friends from across the world to witness their special moment. Sheekha, donning a custom-made Azeeza gown, was led into the hotel’s Balsan restaurant, where a heartfelt and creative proposal video began playing. She said yes, of course, and he led her to the ballroom for a surprise engagement party featuring a multicourse seated dinner, a performance from a classically trained Indian singer that Abbas had flown in for the occasion and a lively afterparty at Underground. Jacqueline Bender & Chase Carpenter Save the Date: 10.24.15 Whether it was fate or coincidence at play, neither TV host and producer Jacqueline nor consultant Chase expected to make any forever-friends while at Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College—most of the students were from out of state, so the pair were pleasantly surprised to learn that they both lived in New Hampshire. Almost seven years (and a move to the Windy City) later, Chase popped the question during a holiday trip to Boston with a 2-carat cushion-cut diamond while at Top of the Hub—a restaurant mere blocks from the Fairmont Copley Plaza, the venue the couple had always imagined for their someday-wedding. Dreams will become reality this fall, when they will celebrate their love at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross followed by a reception at the grand hotel. Kacey Sisca & Daniel Martino Save the Date: 6.13.15 The search for a cold beer on a sweltering Sunday afternoon following a long day of unpacking her new apartment led Kacey not just to refreshment; the cute guy sitting nearby on the patio struck up a conversation and, before leaving, slipped her his digits on a white paper napkin. Fast-forward nearly four years, and Daniel, no longer just a handsome stranger, had planned a simply sweet proposal timed perfectly with the arrival of Kacey’s family from out of town. Despite some unseasonable chilly May weather (“It was borderline sleeting!” says the bride-to-be), Dan led Kacey on a pre-dinner walk through Lincoln Park, stopping near the docks by the nature museum to get down on one knee. The couple spent the weekend celebrating with Kacey’s family and are thrilled to make things official this spring with an exciting affair at The Field Museum. 134 MODERN LUXURY BRIDES CHICAGO ABBAS AND SHEEKHA PHOTO BY SAPAN AHUJA; JACQUELINE AND CHASE PHOTO BY SHANE COLLINS; KACEY AND DANIEL PHOTO BY ROBYN RACHEL PHOTOGRAPHY Sheekha Sethi & Abbas Khan
