LINDSAY MCCORMACK & TIMOTHY CAVANAUGH

June 6, 2015

Ceremony & reception : The Parker Palm Springs

Photography by Callaway Gable Photographers

THE COUPLE As students at the University of Georgia, the future couple found themselves in similar social circles, but their stars were not yet ready to align. "We knew who each other were but were both dating other people," says Lindsay McCormack, a senior account manager at Yahoo. Romance eventually blossomed, and while touring Quebec City, Timothy Cavanaugh, a senior manager at Nativo, proposed in front of the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac, a castle where Lindsay's grandmother once lived.

THE PARTY Wanting to capture a modern bohemian vibe that merged their laid-back SoCal style with the splendor of Morocco, the Venice-based couple infused accents such as vintage candelabras, gemstone placecard holders and even tarot-card readers into the romantic setting. For her dress, Lindsay chose a delicate cutting-edge crop top. "Originally, I'd bought a vintage tea dress on eBay," she says, "but with three months until the wedding, I came across the Reem Acra gown. It has a '50s/'60s silhouette to it, but the two-piece offers a modern take."

WHAT THEY LEARNED " We liked that we took photos before the ceremony so we could hang out with friends and family during the cocktail hour and be a part of the celebration," says Lindsay.

THE HONEYMOON Keeping with their theme, the couple will be jetting off to Spain and Morocco where they will spend Christmas under the stars at a luxury desert camp in the Sahara. -Elise Edwards

Bold & Beautiful

Centerpieces of eucalyptus, boxwood and Camilla accented with white garden roses, lavender, baby's breath, tuberose and white daisies created a linear landscape down the center of the tables. Candelabras and rich purple tones gave the reception an opulent feel .

MARJORIE LACOMBE & JIRIJELINEK

March 20 , 2015

Ceremony & reception :The Resortat Pelican Hill

Photography by Michael Radford

THE COUPLE A moment of procrastination was the catalyst for a lifetime of commitment for Marjorie Lacombe and Jiri Jelinek. The pair turned in their college English papers right before the cutoff time, and after a last-minute hunt for a stapler—which Marjorie dubs their first date—they were inseparable. Five years later, Jiri surprised her in Brazil with a rose-filled penthouse suite and a ring.

THE PARTY Marjorie's California upbringing and Haitian heritage and Jiri's European roots inspired a glamorous multicultural affair at The Resort at Pelican Hill. "We loved having such a diverse wedding party as well as guests from all corners of the world," says Marjorie. "It also made for an eclectic mix of dance music." To close their modern fairy tale, the couple made a swift exit in a Bentley.

WHAT THEY LEARNED "The location of your ceremony and reception will determine pretty much everything for the wedding. So, pick wisely!" Marjorie says, adding that it will affect the menu, guest list and photos. "The venue alone made such a huge difference in how much we truly enjoyed the day."

THE HONEYMOON Three months later, Marjorie and Jiri had a second wedding ceremony with Jiri's family in the Czech Republic. Following their second set of "I do's," they took two weeks to hop from Santorini to the Maldives with a final stop in Istanbul. —Kelsi Maree Borland

ANH PHAM & MARKTONG

June 21, 2015

Ceremony & reception : La Jo lla Scripps Seaside Forum

Photography by Carmen Santorelli

THE COUPLE When Mark Tong and Anh Pham first met in college—he was at UCSD; she was at UCLA—they stuck to friendship. But when Anh moved to San Diego, the two scientists fell in love. On July 7, 2013, Mark proposed on Anh's birthday at La Jolla's Scripps Pier, a favorite spot for the pair, surrounded by friends and family. Her biggest hint at what was to come? "Our dogs were dressed as a bride and groom," laughs Anh, originally from Saigon. Just more than two years later their wedding ceremony took place at the same pier.

THE PARTY Inspired by the sea, the romantic event featured an ocean theme in Tiffany blue and ivory. The laid-back couple, both La Jollans, included charming touches such as a handmade seating chart and a Polaroid camera photo booth. During the reception, held at the stunning Scripps Seaside Forum, a friend serenaded the newlyweds with "P.D.A. (We Just Don't Care)" by John Legend.

WHAT THEY LEARNED Though Anh says she was never a "marriage and weddings type," she embraced tradition for her own big day, donning her mother's dance shoes as something borrowed.

THE HONEYMOON The two are heading to Asia next year, with plans to visit Anh's hometown of Saigon, along with other Vietnamese cities. "Phuket in Thailand is also on my must-visit list," says Mrs. Tong. —AnnaMaria Stephens

Good Taste

"I like simple, elegant cakes with fondantflowers," says Anh, who scouredPinterestfor delectable inspiration. "The topper was the hardest to pick. "After a lot of research, shefound a vendor who could crochet the tiny couple topping the cake. "It was so cute. "

BRENDA LEE STRONG & JOHN FARMANESH-BOCCA

May 2 , 2015

Ceremony & reception: Sierra Mar Restaurant at Post Ranch Inn

Photography by Michelle Magdalena Maddox & Thomas Marchese

THE COUPLE Actress Brenda Lee Strong, best known for playing Mary Alice Young on Desperate Housewives, first met actor-director John Farmanesh-Bocca when they worked together in Los Angeles, but it wasn’t until two years later that the two fell in love. In 2013, John popped the question inside The St. Regis Princeville Resort’s romantic Leolani Cove, and then led his Hollywood beauty to a suite filled with rose petals and Champagne.

THE PARTY To complement the gorgeous topography of Big Sur, sea and earth tones were selected for the wedding’s color-scheme alongside accents of gold and blue, a nod to Golden and Bleu, the couple’s nicknames for each other. For another personal touch, the reception’s dining tables were marked with words rather than numbers. “Because we are both performers and value the power of words, each of our tables were named with qualities we admire like adventure and wisdom,” explains Brenda.

WHAT THEY LEARNED “We wanted every aspect of the wedding to be unique to who we are,” says the groom. “The more personal each aspect was, the more memorable and meaningful [the day was] for ourselves and our guests.”

THE HONEYMOON The couple jetted to the Sea of Cortez for a relaxing post-nuptials getaway, and they will celebrate their anniversary later this year in Italy. Now that’s amore! –Meg McGuire

Band Together

The bride and groom opted for simple yet elegant wedding rings to represent their commitment to each other. John chose a rose gold and platinum band from Kerry Lee Remarkable Jewelry, and Brenda, a diamond and platinum stunner by Charriol.

CHRISTINA PAREDES & ADAM HEPBURN

January 31, 2015

Ceremony & reception: Park Hyatt Aviara

Photography by Mike Arick

THE COUPLE Three years after Christina Paredes and Adam Hepburn's first date at Laguna Beach's The Rooftop Lounge, the couple decided to return to that very spot for a cocktail. To Christina's surprise, the pair was met by friends and family, who were there to witness Adam's romantic proposal.

THE PARTY After a trip to Japan, Christina, an engineering recruiter, and Adam, a trial attorney, chose an Asian-inspired vibe for their wedding. Elegant white centerpieces of garden roses, hydrangeas and gardenias filled ginger jars, which tied in perfectly to the newlyweds' royal-blue color scheme. After the official reception ended, the bride changed into a party-perfect BCBG midi dress to kick off a no-holds-barred afterparty, complete with grilled cheese sandwiches.

WHAT THEY LEARNED "It's important to remember it's about your love for each other," says the new Mrs. Hepburn. "As long as you are happy to be there, everything will go beautifully!"

THE HONEYMOON Following the big day, Christina and Adam traveled to the Grand Hyatt and The St. Regis Princeville Resort on the island of Kauai. From there, the adventurous duo took flight with a helicopter tour of Jurassic Falls for unparalleled views of the island. -JC

AYLA SIMONS & BETZALEL LEVIN

May 31, 2015

Ceremony & reception: Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills

Photography by Jana Williams

THE COUPLE Introduced by mutual friends at only 16 years old, Ayla Simons and Betzalel Levin fell for each other quickly and started dating the following year. A decade later, Betzalel whisked the blond beauty away to Santa Barbara for a romantic Saturday lunch but had a bigger surprise in store for the ICU nurse. Instead of stopping in Santa Barbara, the real estate manager drove all the way to Big Sur’s Ventana Inn & Spa, where he popped the question on the balcony of their candlelit suite.

THE PARTY To complement the couple’s color scheme of champagne, blush and ivory, hundreds of white roses, orchids and peonies filled the hotel’s Wetherly Gardens and ballroom. While sipping on signature cocktails like a pink grapefruit mojito and a classic Manhattan, guests struck a pose in the photo booth and perused memorable snapshots from the duo’s 10 years together.

WHAT THEY LEARNED “Make sure to have food waiting for you in the honeymoon suite, because you most likely won’t be able to eat during the party,” says Ayla. “It’s also a really nice touch to write your vows down on something that you can keep forever or display. We chose custom-made silk booklets with archival paper inside from MadeDivine.”

THE HONEYMOON The newlyweds traveled north to the gorgeous Calistoga Ranch in the Upper Napa Valley. “We had our first meal as a married couple at The Restaurant at Meadowood—I highly recommend it!” says the bride. –MM

I Do After Ayla and Betzalel broke the glass under the chuppah, cannons of white confetti exploded into the air. “This was a surprise from the bride’s parents, and the look on Ayla’s face was genuine. It was truly a great and beautiful moment,” says wedding planner Tali Merewitz.

MICHAEL MITCHELL & TYLER HILL

September 6, 2014

Ceremony: Trinity Episcopal Church Reception: Villa Verona

Photography by Anna Costa

THE COUPLE After seeing his future husband perform during South Carolina’s Spoleto Festival, a starstruck Michael Mitchell friended Tyler Hill on Facebook. A few months and a first date later, the pair’s romance began to bloom. In August 2013, the two took a trip to London, where Michael surprised Tyler with a special evening out: a classic white Bentley transported the couple to a performance of Billy Elliot, followed by a romantic dinner and evening at a hotel overlooking Buckingham Palace. It was there that Michael popped the question.

THE PARTY The Charleston-based couple wed in Santa Barbara with 75 of their nearest and dearest. After a gorgeous church ceremony, the newlyweds gathered with guests for a Texas-style dinner at one long table. “It felt like one, big extended family!” says Tyler. Gypsy jazz-style music filled the night air in the lush garden, followed by a DJ and dancing.

WHAT THEY LEARNED “It is never too early to start planning your wedding,” says Tyler. “Creating a seating chart for a table with 75 guests is something you should allow lots of time for!”

THE HONEYMOON The newlyweds traveled to Europe post-wedding, where they celebrated in Florence, Capri, Athens, the Greek Isles and Rome. Highlights included a private dinner on the rooftop of the Four Seasons Hotel Firenze complete with a surprise fireworks set. –Leslie Westbrook

Well-Lit

Once the knot was tied, Michael and Tyler, along with close friends and family, headed to nearby Villa Verona for an alfresco reception. Guests indulged in a delicious family-style dinner underneath lanterns strung through the trees. Pale pinks, blush and champagne hues were used throughout with accents of turquoise—the grooms’ favorite color.
