S CEN E c h ic a g o w e d d i n g s SARA OREMUS & REZA NILI M ay 2 , 2 015 The Art Institute of Chicago P h o t o g r a p hy by O l i v i a L e i g h THE COUPLE After chatting in the elevator on the way to a yoga class, Sara Oremus couldn’t get Reza Nili off her mind—so she went to every class for a week until she saw him again. Fast-forward to the couple’s two-year dating anniversary while on a Costa Rican getaway: Reza popped the question on a private terrace decorated with candles and tropical flowers. THE DETAILS Sara, donning a dazzling Vera Wang gown, walked her way down the glass staircase of the Modern Wing at The Art Institute of Chicago and met Reza under a bountiful flower arch in front of their family and closest friends. Their friend and officiant read the ceremony, which was written entirely by Sara and Reza. THE PARTY Terzo Piano at The Art Institute, decked out in enchanting shades of purple and pops of pink, set the scene for the reception. All 243 place cards and menus were personally watercolor-painted by Sara and Reza for an added touch of whimsy. In addition to their five-tier red velvet ombre cake, Sara surprised Reza with his own personal cake in the shape of a cupcake, to recount the time Sara meant to send him 12 cupcakes for his birthday, but instead sent 12 giant cakes! Post-celebration, the newlyweds spent a much-deserved and relaxing 11 days in Bora Bora. – AR What We Learned “Hiring the right decor company or florist is so important. I met Sarah from Vale of Enna, who helped me come up with a vision that was truly ‘us.’ As soon as Reza and I walked into our reception space, I cried because the room transformed into a reflection of all the personal details that makes us the couple we are,” says Sara. Clockwise from top: Sara and Reza share a laugh on their big day; Vale of Enna decorated the tables with towering bouquets of peonies, lilacs, lavender and ranunculus; the bride poses with her bridesmaids, all dressed in flowing strapless lilac Watters gowns.
