NOW I N M I A M I With high-profile gigs all throughout the world, DJ Irie has had plenty of career highlights, but his favorite role these days is that of philanthropist. “The Irie Foundation is my greatest accomplishment to date,” he says. “Every year, we raise the bar and grow platforms we never thought possible.” Among those is the groundbreaking of a new music center for Big Brothers Big Sisters later this year. To fund these types of projects, he keeps upping the ante on his annual Irie Weekend (June 23 to 25), three days of music-and sports-related events that attract a bevy of NBA VIPs and celebs. As he gears up for yet another edition of the popular fundraiser this summer, we dialed up Miami’s foremost spin master so he could clue us in on his leisure musts. irieweekend.com; iriefoundation.org –Stacey Rene Russell MUSICAL MUSINGS MY MIAMI HOTEL GLAMOUR “To impress a lady on a rst date these days, you have to take her to the Faena (3201 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, 305.534.8800, faena.com). From the decor to the vibe, that hotel is one of the best things to happen to South Beach in a while.” WORK IT OUT “Without a doubt, Anatomy at 1220 (1220 20th St., Miami Beach, 786.213.1220, anatomyat1220.com) is my favorite gym. It’s going to be a game-changer for the city.” DJ IRIE PHOTO BY JEREMIAH LAZO; ANATOMY AT 1220 PHOTO BY MANOLO DORESTE GOOD TASTE “I’m a big fan of Sunset Harbour, and my new favorite there is NaiYaRa (1854 Bay Road, Miami Beach, 786.275.6005, naiyara.com).
