Danielle & Oren
What happens when a nontraditional bride teams up with a tastemaker planner for her big day? A one-of-a-kind affair with style in spades.
EVEN THOUGH Danielle Nadick never daydreamed about her wedding day, she couldn’t help but tease her boyfriend of four years, Oren Levy, when he missed out on the perfect opportunity to propose. “We were on vacation at the beautiful Viceroy hotel in Riviera Maya, and every single night we would witness a proposal on the beach,” she recalls. “We had an ongoing joke about it. I kept saying, ‘Wow, you really suck. This would have been perfect.’” A month later, under the ruse of a trip to Chicago to visit family (the couple resides in Los Angeles), Oren surprised Danielle at the airport when she realized the Windy City wasn’t their final destination. He whisked her back to Mexico for a one-night stay at the Viceroy hotel, where—all jokes aside—he pulled off the perfect proposal on the beach.
Eleven months later, the couple celebrated their love with a stylish fete at Chicago’s industrial-elegant Morgan Manufacturing. “Danielle and Oren’s unique vision added the chicest kind of edge to their overall look,” says planner Rachel De Marte, who helped carry out their modern-meetseclectic celebration. The building’s rooftop, with striking cityscape views, served as a stunning setting for the ceremony, where Danielle walked down a black aisle flanked by billowing 30-foot-long arrangements of ferns, ivy and larkspur in a custom-beaded gown featuring an overskirt with a 4-footlong train. “I struggled with the pressure of looking like a traditional bride, but I’m the type of girl who wants to be able to dance and have fun at my wedding without having to pull off a full outfit change,” says Danielle, who removed her overskirt to reveal a playful flared minidress for the reception.
Guests descended upon Morgan Manufacturing’s main floor, where De Marte topped mod wooden tables with black runners, loads of candles in mismatched votives, and edgy china and vases filled with textural, unstructured blooms. DJ Matt Roan— and a late-night visit from Wiener Circle—kept the party going, before the couple flew straight away to Capri, Italy where they kicked off a 3 ½-week trip through the Mediterranean.
What We Learned “I learned to have fun with what can sometimes be a stressful situation,” says Danielle. “In the end, we realized how blessed we were to be able to plan such an amazing party.”
