Northern Californian jams and “How to Speak Jamaican” booklets—a nod to the book Nadine’s father had given Arno after he proposed to Nadine. The couple rented out the Dawn Ranch Lodge in Guerneville, where guests could join the daytime festivities or take a break in private. And the privacy came in handy. “My best man got all the kids together to rehearse a song for Nadine,” Arno says. “They sang a Jamaican song that was really sweet, and it was a complete surprise for her.” Family traditions also ensued: Nadine’s mother had a piñata at every family holiday. To surprise the kids, the couple packed dollar bills into a piñata along with a copious amount of candy. “The kids went nuts,” Nadine recalls. Throughout the night the wedding party sipped Uncle Earl’s rum punch, dined on local seafood, danced to reggae rhythms and formed a limbo line with a pole handcrafted by the groom. “He was in charge of one thing,” says the bride. “But I was really impressed with how much effort he really put into it.” The couple and their guests danced bent over backward for hours, enjoying the carefree attitude that embodied the weekend.
