You’ve been bicoastal for quite some time but fi nally made a full commitment to L.A. What were you thinking? I moved there Is Veep like The West Wing 2.0? e West Wing was such a great political show, but it was very glossy, and it was very dramatic and showed all the best things about Washington, D.C. Veep shows all the real humanity, all the foibles, all the cracks and the faults of these people. ere are real people running this country. ere aren’t too many Rob Lowes and Martin Sheens running around. What kind of research did you do? I have some good originally almost 10 years ago, but I just gave up my apartment in the East Village last summer to make the leap for work, and my girlfriend lives in L.A. But now it’s kind of funny because the jobs I keep getting are being shot on the East Coast. M friends who have actually worked in this position under various congressmen; some have actually worked for presidents as well. The former New Yorker now lives in Los Feliz, Calif., where he divides his time between movies, TV, theater projects and music. He also recently lent his voice, along with Jon Hamm, to an L.A. Theatre Works production for NPR of Chekhov’s Three Sisters . In other words, Scott’s life is good. as possible, because they love the idea of the show. I’m assuming that when the show airs they’re going to say, “Oh, he’s based on me.” What else do you have on your plate? I’m currently directing a stage production of e Elephant Man at eatre 68 in L.A. It’s been my friend Babar Peerzada’s passion project for a really long time, and he’s playing the Elephant Man. He asked me to come on as director.
