All summer,Miller exhibits some of these Latin American gems, featuring seldom-seen older works by masters like Cuban artist Wilfredo Lam, whose paintings, sculptures and ceramics combine the spirit of his Afro-Cuban roots with modern European abstraction; Armando Morales, Nicaragua’s best-known contemporary painter; and Gunther Gerzso, one ofMexico’s pioneer abstractionists. Oh Nancy In his role as guest curator, artist Brian Burkhardt lured the international and ever-morphing artistic collaboration Oh Nancy to Gallery Diet. To get a sense for Nate Wellman and Fionn McCabe’s online project, think Ovid meets the graphic novel meets the Internet. Born from a story Wellman created and McCabe illustrated, Oh Nancy now incorporates the works of artists from across the world, who add to the story by submitting their photography, graphic art, drawings or other pieces via the website ohnancy.com. For its Wynwood stop, Burkhardt takes works compiled by Wellman and McCabe to showcase the story’s most up-to-date plot twists. Argentinian Visions: From Modernism To Contemporary Aesthetics Lourdes and Raul Cremata are amongMiami’s most respected collectors of Cuban and Latin American art (Raul is himself a well-recognized Cuban- American painter); it’s no surprise that the couple’s group shows tend to vibrate with a keen insiders’ sensibility. Tis summer, Lourdes says they “want to show Miami what Argentina has to offer.” From Juan Carlos Benitez’s wispy bird-eyed women, to the romanticmodernismof CarloMonzani and the bold, contemporary strokes of Gonzalo Antón, the walls in the Cremata gallery are sure to pound as passionately as a summer tango.
