The third annual Italian Expo at the George R. Brown Convention Center promises concerts, dance performances, art, retail and more. And the expo’s runway fashion and Italian cuisine competitions are not to be missed. With scores of tastings and demos, the culinary contest includes nine local chefs, including Maurizio Ferrarese of Quattro at the Four Seasons and Luis Rubio of La Griglia. The champ is crowned June 5 at 5:30pm. “We have them compete in a way they can actually show [the audience] how they cook,” says Italy-America Chamber of Commerce Director Paolo Fronza. “The general public’s going to vote.” For fashionistas, there’s the Italian Fashion Exchange competition, in which looks by emerging local designers are scrutinized by a panel of style experts including Project Runway star Chloe Dao and designer David Peck.
