Opening LETTER Readers, as we welcome 2012 and look forward to the many exciting social and philanthropic events on our calendar this year, we also celebrate the life of former Chicago first lady Maggie Daley. Daley was a beloved and inspirational philanthropic leader in this city and beyond, and spotting her brilliant smile in the crowd at a fundraising gala or ribbon-cutting ceremony was always a special treat. This is a big year for our city. The Junior League of Chicago marks its centennial, and the Women’s Board of the Ravinia Festival turns 50. The beautiful Lurie Children’s Hospital and the sparkling new Ronald McDonald House—the world’s largest—are both opening. World leaders will gather here for the G8 and NATO summits this spring, and the Ryder Cup golf tournament will attract an international crowd in the fall. the There’s much to do, and so many worthy organizations and cultural institutions to support.
